THE ELECTROCHEMICAL PERFORMANCES OF Zr-BASED HYDROGEN STORAGE ALLOYS

Abstract:The main crystal structure of Zr(CrxNi1-x)2, (X = 0. 15-0. 65) alloys prepared by the arc melting in an argon atmosphere was found to change from C15 to C14 as the ratio Cr/Ni increased,and the alloy Zr (Cr0.35,Ni0.65)2 which was mainly of C15 exhibited maximum electrochemical discharge capacity of 305 mAh/g at 293 K. The exchange current density i0 varied with the equlibrium potentials of the hydride electrodes, the lower the elctrode potentials, the larger the i0 values. Fine alloy powders,especially those were pulverized in H2 gas and the electrodes pretreated with(H2O2+HF) solution were highly activated. An obvioous variation of Zr 3d5/2 peak position before and after cyclings was detected,the discrepency is related with the activity of the hydride electrodes.
